OUR HISTORY

In the beginning...

It’s the perfect place to begin! The Opry was born from a vision of two people, George and Clara Riley. Around 32 years ago they decided to create a live music show that the whole family could enjoy. The first location of the Wylie Opry was in the warehouse district, on Cooper street, next to the railroad tracks. It was quite a challenge when a train passed by. The sounds of the train would echo throughout the building, sometimes drowning out the band and entertainers.   Soon the Wylie Opry relocated in the heart of downtown Wylie where it still is today. As of May, 2000 the ownership of the Opry has gone from the Riley’s to Mr. LeGrant Gable.

LeGrant has work for the Opry for many years and it was only natural that he should become the new owner.  We invite you to come by and check out what is new at the Opry. Currently, we can seat approximately 250 guest and many nights all these seat are full. It is recommended to call ahead for reservations.

The Opry would not be the success it is today without the support and help from the people BEHIND THE SCENE Don’t forget the TEXAS LEGEND BAND  who creates those great country sounds. It is important to all of us at the Wylie Opry to let our entertainers and band members know how much we appreciate all of their hard work.
